Majrooh Sultanpuri

1919-2000

Asrar ul Hasan Khan took on the pen name ‘Majrooh’- meaning wounded. He wrote lyrics for over 300 films. Herewith his famous songs:

A few films for which he wrote songs: Abhimaan, Tumsa nahin dekha, Phir wohi dil laya hoon, Teesri Manzil, Jo Jeeta wohi Sikander, Qayamat se qayamat tak, Kabhi haan kabhi haan, Andaz Apna Apna, Akele hum Akele tum etc.

He introduced a few Urdu words , not used before: sanam, nasha, dilruba, dilbar, mohabbat.

He is the only lyricist to win the Dadasaheb Phalke award.
